My Mission
My mission as an artist is to create at least as much as I consume. Social media-based news consumption is tailored to our interests based on the content we normally click on. This makes it harder to learn new things, new topics and interact rationally with people we don’t agree with.
YOUTH OF TODAY SERIES
My intention in making these pieces is to suggest again an alternative to information consumption, back to basics, you know – a conversation between two people where stories and emotions are shared without judgement or blame.
In this series, The Youth of Today, I am drawing exclusively youth climate activists. I’m assigning a face to the generation that has no choice but to face the environmental crisis. And I am assigning a face to the countries and regions that will suffer the most, without their stories being heard.
The pieces are playful, colorful, youthful, while the message is real, dark, and reflective. The message is, these youth have to grow up too quickly, to be caretakers and stewards in ways adults couldn’t be for them.
All pieces are composed of hand-drawn portraits and mixed media elements including relevant collage cuttings from NatGeo magazines and cyanotypes.
I invite you to meet these incredible youth and reflect on their present and future lives, and how it may differ from your own.
